CWB OVERVIEW

Undoubtedly, as intellectuals, you have been exposed to mainstream ideas of the existing social order that are communicated to you in the classroom; at programs where special guests have been invited to speak; in textbooks and in official socio-cultural activities. These ideas are used to shape and mold your opinion about the problems and solutions confronting Africans and the other oppressed peoples of the world.

However, history teaches us clearly that these ideas and perspectives emanating from the existing social order were not the source of inspiration for great leaders such as: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ahmed Seku Ture, Omowale Malcolm X,  Harriet Tubman, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. W.E.B. DuBois; and so many others. Quite to the contrary, these great leaders were motivated by ideas that were a direct challenge to and came from outside the prevailing social order. This is wholly logical considering that African people have been struggling for freedom from the so-called "accepted social order" for over 500 years.

The Culture Workers Bureau provides you with the means to sharpen your tools of analysis, and a way to effectively participate the progressive flow of history. It is your resource to keep you informed about the changing events in the world today from Southern Africa to North America, Palestine, Eastern Europe, Central America and beyond.  Most important, the Pan-African Resource Project summons you to become an active agent in setting the material conditions for progressive and positive change. IDEAS MUST BE EXPLORED, NOT IGNORED!

Our lecture series is year-round programming where we offer regional, national and international speakers from the wide spectrum of the African world; as well as insightful speakers from amongst the indigenous people of North America, and from Palestine. You can also treat yourself of our comprehensive audio-visual tape library of historical and current events chronicling African people's global struggle for freedom, justice, liberation, unity and genuine social-economic development.  Some of the topics our culture workers are available to speak on are: "Pan-Africanism or Perish", "The Role of African Students and Youth in the Struggle for Pan-Africanism", "Herstoric Contribution of African Women toward African Emancipation: Past, Present and Future", "IMF/World Bank and Structural Adjustment: Opponents of True African Independence" as well as many others.  Our speakers can also address specific topics put forth by your organization or department.

In addition to the outstanding list of lecturers, scholars and grass roots organizers, the Culture Workers Bureau (CWB), has arranged an extensive and Pan-African list of cultural warriors, who through spoken word, song, percussion and other forms of cultural expression seeks to raise the consciousness and commitment of African youth to the progressive development of African Society.  This list includes such artists as the "Barefoot Dread" Mutabaruka, Kwame Bediako and Chavunduka and Steve Cobb.
